BBQ night for persons with a disability

Clients, carers and staff from the Day Services for Persons with a Disability within Agenzija Sapport, enjoyed together an evening packed with activities, held at the Splash and Fun Water Park.

Various sport activities such as water games, bowling, volleyball and tug of wars were included in this event, which was followed by a barbecue for all those present. Popular Maltese singers also provided entertainment to those present. This activity forms part of the integration programmes for persons with a disability throughout the year.

This event, brought together close to 225 persons with a disability, together with their carers. Activities like this provide persons with a disability the chance to interact together and to show-case their various skills such as in crafts, sports and music. Such events require a lot of preparation involving both staff and volunteers while creating synergy between the Centres.

Currently there are around 450 persons with a disability who are receiving a service from the Day Services. The 10 Centres are located in Paola, Santa Venera, Hal Far, Fleur de-Lys, M’Scala, Pembroke, Swatar, Birgu and 2 at Imtarfa, which give a service to clients coming from various localities.

The aim of the day programmes is both to assist persons with a disability developing their potential as well as giving support to their family thus permitting persons with a disability to continue living within the community. This helps in the integration process of persons with a disability within society and thus also giving them more independence.
