Frequently Asked Questions

BulletResidential Services

Q : How can I access your Services?
A : For any service request the person must contact Social Work Services. The person will be supplied with all necessary information and directed accordingly. Referrals requesting Residential Services will be presented to the Service Allocation Committee to be reviewed for allocation of service. Once the Service is allocated the person with a disability will be referred to Residential Services.

Q : Following the approval of SAC, when shall I start receiving the Residential Services?
A : The Service Allocation Committee approves Residential Services according to the financial viability of Aġenzija SAPPORT which directly affects its vacancy profile. However, SAC may recommend particular situations that are deemed urgent to be given priority. Should the resources not permit a service to be provided immediately, a person approved with Residential Services shall be placed on a waiting list. Length of time on the waiting list is not a factor in deciding who will benefit from Residential Services as vacancies arise.

Q : Do I have to pay for such Service?
A : The Service is free of charge. The client contributes towards the cost of accommodation and support through his/her Disability Pension and/or other allowances.

Q : Is this lifetime secured accommodation for my son/daughter?
A : As long as the person with a disability wishes to continue living in SAPPORT residences, the Agency will continue providing the necessary support.

Q : Is this Service available to persons having a disability who are presently living in an institution?
A : Yes, SAPPORT provides this Service to such persons provided that they wish to move out of their present accommodation and that they follow the same referral procedure.

Q : Do you provide support to my son/daughter with a disability when I/we need a break?
A : No, SAPPORT does not provide respite support through Residential Services.

Q : Is the Residential Service the answer to every family's concern regarding the members of the family having a disability?
A : The Residential Service has helped to improve the quality of life of clients. However it is neither realistic nor recommendable to offer such a Service to all people with a disability. The maxim would be to offer the possibility of independent living without removing the person wtih a disability from the residential setting of one's choice, and preferably support them within the family ambience.
